Wound Care
Millions of Americans suffer from wounds that are difficult to heal. Often, an underlying condition such as diabetes, vascular disease (poor blood circulation), poor nutrition or an infection will prevent cuts, sores, ulcers and injuries from responding to standard treatments.
With a team of board-certified physicians, nurses and technicians, Pecos Valley Physician Group specializes in treating these types of wounds, and we are eager to help patients achieve healing.
Commonly treated conditions include:
- Surgical wounds
- Burns
- Trauma/injuries
- Arterial, diabetic, pressure and venous ulcers
If you have a wound that has not healed in 30 days, or a sore with increasing pain, redness, swelling, change of color or foul odor, you should be evaluated to determine if specialized help is needed.
Making an Appointment
Your physician may refer you to a clinic for wound care, or you may make an appointment directly. The staff will review your health history, evaluate your wound and then create a customized treatment plan.
Your care may include:
- Invasive studies
- Debridement (removal of dead/damaged tissue)
- Wound dressings
- Bioengineered tissue (grafts)
- Multi-layer compression wraps for swelling
- Total contact casting (special casts for diabetic foot ulcers)
- Vacuum-assisted closure (procedure to drain a wound, prevent infection and speed healing)
- Hyperbaric medicine (oxygen therapy)
You play an important role in the healing process. We will show you how to care for your wound, and how to recognize early warning signs of complications; you will need to carefully follow all instructions to achieve the best outcome. We will also provide your primary care physician with updates on your care and progress.
